Ive been looking all over the net for the placement of these salt lamps. As you know, each sector of a house represents some aspect of your life. And placement of certain objects within the house can either improve or make worse your life depending on where you place objects. But what Ive gotten from the net has been somewhat mixed.
One one hand, I know that pink and orange (the color of these lamps) is represented by fire, and hence should be good in either the NE, SW, and possibly the S or center sectors. But on the other hand, salt is also used as a cleansing agent in feng shui to clear out negative chi supposedly. There is even one article claiming that salt lamps sending out bad chi. Who knows?
Im thinking that salt is its own element all together. It is probably not a good thing to place in your east or SE sectors as salt dries up wood, and probably not a good thing to put in your N sector as it would soak up a lot of water. But if you have a lot of negative yang chi in the NE sector, or maybe SW sector, then maybe these lamps might be good. I frankly dont know. Anyone know or they just guessing like me?

Good product - it looks lovely lit up. I just had to give it a wiping with a damp cloth to get some dirt off it. My only problem was with shipping - the bulb that was supposed to be included never came. I contacted the seller and he offered to ship it or give me a $10 credit towards a future purchase. Honestly, dont know if Ill buy anything else soon (economy and all), so I reluctantly went with the wastefulness of shipping the bulb. Still havent received the bulb and its been over a week.

Gorgeous, so classic, Im very happy I bought these. The colour is a bit lighter than the picture, and texture is a very glossy yellow lacquer paint. You might like to get the gourmet whole pepper and french sea salt to go with it at the same time you order, it would just make sense to have it all when they come. Lovely.

The Peugeot pepper and salt mills have a beautiful gloss finish that is a rich none yellow mustardy color, they call this curry. The color in the picture does not do these mills justice. The mills themselves are about 22 cm tall or 8.75 inches tall the metal knobs are not a significant part of the height, being that they blend in so well with the contours of the mill, but they are part of this measurement. They measure about 19 cm/ 7.5 inches around at the base our 5.5 cm from edge to edge, the diameter. The height and width make these mill perfect as they are not so big as to be a nuisance or so small that you lose them on the table amongst your food, and again the beautiful color and finish makes them wonderful functional accent pieces for a kitchen or dinner table...
The grinding mechanism is just like those of the past and made of metal rather than hard plastic. The setting for fine and coarse grinds works true enough with a tight-ing of the knobs giving you a finer grind and loosing coarser larger pieces. I tossed out the salt and peppercorns that came with it, I had no idea what these where stored with our how long they had been with Amazon. When you do fill them please be sure you use rock salt and enough black peppercorns in a pepper mix.
The price is a the really deal here one only needs to walk into any fine cookware store to see that each one of these mills sells for $35 to $45 dollars. A great buy that will last for years to come.

I not only think Alton Browns "Good Eats" is the best cooking show on T.V., but Im also a total sucker for cute gadgets and this one fit the bill! After seeing Alton use one many times, I had to have one. I purchased mine at Linens n Things and absolutely love it. Its not only adorable, but indespensibly functional. We use unprocessed salt called "Real Salt" and it keeps the salt clean and prevents it from forming lumps. I also use Kosher salt for tasks such as boiling pasta. Im so enthused about this wonderful salt server that all of my family and my husbands sister are getting one for Christmas. Since Linens n Things is going out of business, I was delighted to find them on Amazon.

My husband has wanted one of these ever since he saw Alton Brown with one. I finally broke down and bought it for him. I have to admit, I love it. We use sea salt and kosher salt, and the containers they come in make it very hard to get a "pinch" of salt. This server makes getting a pinch or a teaspoon so easy! Plus it looks nice on the table.
My only wish is that it was easier to keep the stainless steel lid clean and free of fingerprints.

I started finding it a pain to pull the box of kosher salt out of the cupboard, so I decided to buy this, thanks to seeing Alton Brown use it on "Good Eats". The look of this item works with our kitchen, as we have granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances. The lid has a gasket which keeps moisture out of the vessel itself. The glass bowl sits perfectly in the metal holder, and can be removed for washing.

I got this from a friend for my bday.
PROS: I wish the stainless steel was brushed as it gets all the regular kitchen stuff on it. It comes with a spoon but I use my fingers as I was getting way too much salt for what I needed. It is super convenient to have this right next to the stove instead of grabbing the salt from the pantry several times a meal.
CONS: I wish there was two spaces so I could have pepper there too.

Given how long Ricky Skaggs and Sharon White have been married and how well established both Skaggs and the Whites are as recording artists, its surprising that this is the first album-length collaboration between Skaggs and his Kentucky Thunder and the vocal trio of his wifes family. The wait was worth it. Though Skaggs and White are plainly the spotlight draws here, the selection spreads lead vocals among her sister Cheryl and father Buck as well, while some of the highlights (such as the a cappella ending to the traditional "Blessed Assurance") blend the four in harmony. Whats no surprise is that the musical bedrock is spiritual throughout, from classic fare such as "Farther Along" and "Wings of a Dove" to contemporary originals such as "Love Will Be Enough" and "Let It Shine" (where Sharon sounds particularly luminous). This is a superior, sublime country/bluegrass gospel album, featuring bluegrass superstar Ricky Skaggs and his extended family, his wife Sharon White and her sister Cheryl, and father Buck White, who have recorded with him quite a bit over the years. The White Family have been recording great music for over three decades, but their own albums are mostly out of print and hard to find, so its always a treat when Ricky Skaggs gives them a platform to show their lovely, old-fashioned family-based harmony style. Its a nice, nostalgic sound, recalling the early roots of country music from the 1920s, 30s and 40s, when this kind of open-hearted sincerity was still common. Gospel fans will be delighted at this sweet-sounding set (although some secular-minded listeners may find the religious message hard to get past) There are plenty of standards, but also a wealth of less well-known songs that make this even more of a treat. Many country artists record religious music because it is expected. These CDs are always technically excellent, the artists in good voice, the band on the mark with a good selection of hymns. Very few artists bring real conviction and honest beliefs to these recordings. Those few that have genuine religion always add additional value to the CD. Ricky Skaggs and The Whites bring outstanding talents, conviction and deeply held beliefs to this CD. This combination produces an emotional entertaining experience that few can duplicate. These people feel the words to the songs, understand what they mean and bring those feeling out.
This is the first album-length collaboration between Ricky Skaggs, Kentucky Thunder and the vocal trio of his wifes family. They say this "has been a long time coming" many of us say it is past due and needs to be done more than once. The combination of voices and styles complement, enhance and showcase the talents of each group. This produces an intriguing series of songs as groups alternate taking the lead. Just as we settle into an expected routine, they combine into a single group that you swear has worked together for years.
This is the Dove Award Bluegrass Album of the Year for very good reasons. Wreck on the Highway is one of the best versions of this standard ever done. The title song Salt of the Earth, celebrating lives of goodness and work, was a Dove nominee for Bluegrass Recorded Song of the Year. Near the Cross, Blessed Assurance, This Old House and Solid Rock are outstanding tracks highlighting the unique talents of this special CD.

Some CDs contain great music other CDs contain music so great that it transcends music and becomes something even more wonderful and meaningful. The recent Dove Award-winning "Salt of the Earth" by Ricky Skaggs & The Whites belongs in the latter category. Though the artists here represent the very best of bluegrass, Gospel, country, and folk music, this CD defies easy categorization - it is all of that and more.
Until now, Ricky Skaggs & The Whites have never made an album of music together. Given that Skaggs is married to Sharon White, it is surprising they waited this long, but it makes this highly-anticipated collaboration all the more fresh and rewarding. Along with Sharons sister, Cheryl, and dad, Buck, the sound of these four voices together is spine-chillingly gorgeous, and there is a profound sense of joy permeating this project.
Perfectly self-produced, this CD is elegantly understated, keeping the crystalline vocals up-front and uncluttered. That said, the musicianship is first-rate and lively, as any fan of Skaggs or the Whites would expect.
The song selection is a pleasing blend of new songs and timeless classics. Excellent new songs such as "Love Will Be Enough," "Let It Shine," "One Seed of Love," and the title track sit well alongside long-time treasures such as "Blessed Assurance," "Farther Along," and "The Solid Rock." The mournful cautionary tale "I Didnt Hear Nobody Pray" is a vintage sad story-song that really puts the "blue" in bluegrass. "Big Wheel" definitely sets toes to tapping.
Overall, its just impossible to find anything to complain about here. This music, like so much of what Ricky Skaggs and The Whites have created over the years, is refreshing and bracing like a spring-fed mountain stream. Call it a classic!

My husband and I love this grinder. We actually bought several for gifts and an extra one for ourselves to use as a sea salt grider. Only 2 disadvantages to this grinder (one is why I didnt give it 5 stars).
The unit doesnt hold very much product, which means it needs to be re-filled often. In order to re-fill the unit, the base must be removed and the base is quite snug (and is difficut to remove). You want to turn the grinder over to remove the base, which turns the grinder on- that is quite frustrating.
To those who would like to use this as a sea salt grinder, beware that it grinds the salt rapidly which can oversalt your food. This is not a disadvantage to the grinder itself as it was not made to be a salt grinder.
Other than the above, we love this grinder and think its a great buy. Amazon also has the best price- I found this grinder at a large national retailer for almost $30.00, so this is a great price!!

This is a handy product, but it has a few problems:
Pros.
1. Works well and is highly adjustable.
2. I like a lot of pepper. It would sometimes take me a couple of minutes to grind with a manual grinder what I can now grind in seconds.
Cons.
1. Grinder stem contains a spring that is easily dislodged. It ends up in the peppercorns if you arent very careful when refilling. Also, if you accidentally overfill it, the spring will fall out when you empty the excess peppercorns and you will have to get a tool to reinstall it. Its not a huge problem but is mildly annoying.
2. Sounds like an electric pencil sharpener. The motor is a bit loud.
A rechargable model might be better. I used Duracell batteries and the required 6 AAA batteries lasted three months. I use it rather intensely 5 days a week, so your mileage may vary.

This pepper mill is a nothing but a piece of junk. I ordered two of them. The motor on the first one died within 10 seconds of putting the batteries in. On the second one, the motor is "working", but it is not turning the metal rod, so all you get is the motor noise and no grinds. The motor has all plastic, fine teeth gears - even if you get lucky and get it to grind a teaspoon before it dies, how long do you think thats going to last? Dont throw your money away on this bottom of the barrel "made in china" junk.

Well made. this product uses too many battteries. Also it should only work when turned upside down. It starts when turned sideways. Also should have a larger reserve for pepper and the grind size is too big even when adjusted

This dank-as-style contemporary film noir features most of the genre's familiar ingredients: murder, creepy characters, narrative flashbacks, an identity crisis or two, and a compelling if twisted subculture, in this case the scaly underbelly of the L.A. some speed freaks call home. While the genre has generally relied on dark jazz shadings--or, in the case of David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti, a hodgepodge of hellish synthscapes and nostalgic irony gone sour--the presence of Thomas Newman here guarantees something more expansive than clichés, and the young veteran delivers again. Newman's odd, percussion-reliant tack may occasionally be familiar here, but the score's unusually large ensemble allows him a wide timbral palate. He wastes no time infusing the score with jarring industrial rhythms, indistinct ethnic modalities that seem invented out whole cloth, some of Erin Brockovich's spare, Fender Rhodes-driven acid jazz shadings, and great, eerie dollops of the ominous, electro-acoustic soundscapes that have defined so many of his scores, yet without ever descending into caricature.
